Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital Nurse Overtime Pay Lawsuit

Veterans Administration hospital nurses are often required to work long and stressful hours at hospital, clinics, and medical offices.  Quite often, a VA Hospital nurse will work in excess of a 40 hour work week but not be paid overtime wages by the employer.  The failure of the employer to pay required overtime pay can give rise to a nurse overtime pay lawsuit.

Many VA Hospital nurses are required to clean and iron their uniforms at home.  This additional work requirement time should be added onto the regular number of work hours and quite often puts the nurse in the overtime pay range.  A recent lawsuit was filed against the Veterans Administration for not paying nurses to launder and iron their clothes at home.

In general, nurses are entitled to overtime pay under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).  Under this law, overtime pay may be required when a nurse works longer than 40 hours within seven consecutive days.  Many nurses work long 12 hour shifts and adding a full or partial shift in one week can put them over the limit.  Some states have also enacted overtime laws with respect to the number of hours an employee can work within a 24-hour span before receiving overtime pay.

If you are a Veterans Administration hospital nurse and worked overtime without being paid for it or were not paid for washing your clothes at home, you may be entitled to file a VA nurse overtime pay lawsuit.  These lawsuits are often filed by an entire group of nurses against a VA  hospital or medical facility for payment of back overtime wages.  There are strict time deadlines for filing lawsuits so it is essential that you contact an attorney immediately.
