Police Officers Sue For Unpaid Overtime Pay

PORTSMOUTH, VA. — Police officers in Portsmouth, Virginia have filed a federal lawsuit against the city for unpaid overtime pay.  The suit alleges that officers worked in excess of 40 hours per week but were not paid overtime wages.  There are 34 police officers named as Plaintiffs, but others are eligible to join in the suit.

The lawsuit also alleges that officers are not compensated for off duty work.  This would include taking phone calls from supervisors or about investigations during off work hours or time off of their shift.  The police officers claim that they are entitled to time and a half pay for those excess hours.  A similar lawsuit was filed by numerous Norfolk police officers a few years earlier.

Police officers who work in excess of 40 hours per week and are not paid overtime wages should contact us today to learn more about their legal rights.  In many cases, a claim for past due wages can be made for up to two years in the past.  In some states, those claims can date back even longer.   Due to these time deadlines, it is important to contact a qualified attorney as soon as possible to discuss your work situation to see if you have a claim for unpaid overtime pay.
